Turku Folklore Association (in Finnish Turun Kansantanssin Ystävät) was established in 1970. Its goal was and is to enable children to join in the dancing groups and to raise them to value folk dance and other Finnish traditions.
The goal has been reached tremendously well as today there are nearly 20 dancing groups of which more than half are groups of children and young people.
Nowadays Turun Kansantanssin Ystävät is an active association both in Finland and abroad. Our groups visit Folk Dance Festivals all over the world and foreign groups visit Turku during "Tanssiva Turku" -festivals, latest were organized in July 2009. Link to the pictures...
We will organize the next "Tanssiva Turku" -festival in the summer of year 2012.
